Oahu is a large island that has a lot of different neighborhoods to offer. Personally, I prefer living in Honolulu, as close to Diamond Head and the ocean as possible. The community here has beautiful single family homes built in the 1920s and up, and offers a certain level of charm that I resonate with, being originally from New England. With home prices in this area averaging in the million dollar plus range, not everyone can get as close to the beach as they would like.
There is, however, a small community of highly desirable condominiums directly on the ocean called the “Gold Coast.” It consists of about 15 different residential buildings and a few hotels, all ocean front. This neighborhood is located on the very end of Waikiki at the base of Diamond Head. Here are my top 5 reasons to invest in a Gold Coast Condo:

1. | Location, Location, Location
Do you like to swim? If so, these condominiums are located directly on the ocean. I’m talking only steps from the Gold Coast’s seawall that lines the properties. Also, the famous silver staircase makes it easy for you to walk down and plunge into the crystal clear water. It is a glorious place to swim, dive, and listen to the ocean crash against the wall. Tongs, which is a world famous surf break is located directly in front of the sea wall. It makes it easy to grab your board, hop in, and paddle out any time of day.

2. | Kapiolani Park
Walking, running, and lounging in Kapiolani Park is a great way to pass the time. The park is located right across the street from the Gold Coast. There you’ll find a huge beautiful fountain along with some seriously gorgeous banyan trees. It’s also dog friendly!
3. | Biking to Waikiki for Surfing, Shopping, and Dinner
The heart of Waikiki is only a walk or bike ride away. The best thing about the Gold Coast is that it’s tucked away from all of that city noise, yet close enough to go surf the famous breaks such as Queens or Canoes, and eat at all the best restaurants. Did I mention shopping? You can spend the day walking down Kalakaua Ave and popping into all the different stops if you are feeling up for some retail therapy.
4. | Great Rental Income
Rental income on the Gold Coast ranges about $2500-$3500 per month depending on the view and size of your unit. It is an overall great investment for people who want to spend 6 months in Hawaii and rent out their units for the remainder of the year. Home prices on Oahu are significantly increasing, with the median sales price last month being at $795k for single family homes and $400k for condos. Buying a piece of the Gold Coast is certainly a very special real estate investment because there’s truly nothing like it in Honolulu. Smaller high rise condominiums directly on the ocean in one of the best locations you could ask for. Very attractive for renters!
5. | Price Range
There are not too many places on Oahu where you can be steps from the beach for under a million dollars. Not to mention with all the amenities of having Waikiki minutes away and a gated private access to the ocean, it is pretty much impossible. I have been closely watching the market on the Gold Coast for many months now, and I have seen multiple listings in the low $600k – $850k range making ocean front living more accessible to potential buyers.

I currently have a listing at the Tropic Sea’s building located at 2943 Kalakaua Ave unit # 107. It is a quiet ground level unit with a direct corner ocean view of Tongs surf break. It offers 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, and the listing price is $799k. It needs remodeling, but with some tile or bamboo flooring, paint, and some other minor updates, the unit will be wonderful. It is located 15 steps from the private gate that opens up to the ocean. Surfboard racks and a shower are located right outside, and it has lots of natural light and breeze coming off the ocean throughout the unit.
